Nicole

My hair hates protein. Protein takes so much from my hair that even after using a deep mosturizing conditioner, my hair still feel very hard and dry. The only protein that my hair will take is Aubrey Organics GPB Conditioner with Lavendar. I use this conditioner as a pre-poo as I try to do with all protein conditioners.

I just starting using Protein a month ago and I have less breakage and my hair becomes soft&strong after my Keracare Humecto conditioner. I recently used the Aphogee 2step treatment and really liked it; I've also tried Dudley's DRC-28 which was good but its too hard to find so I'm sticking with aphogee. For those of you who can't use it in your hair, I recommend eating it, i.e. Food, vitamins, or shakes.

i don't think my hair likes protein, either. it makes my hair feel like hay. i want to try the aubrey stuff. right now i use mizani fulfy. i like it because it's both protein and moisture.

My hair hates protein but, I still use as a prepoo.

Protein saved my hair from breaking off completely. I discovered Aphogee 2 steps in April 08 and boy what a difference this has made. I have used the Aphogee 2steps every 3 weeks for 3 months, and it stopped the breakage. My weekly regime consist of prepoo with ORS, shampoo with Aphogee for damaged hair, and DC with Africa's olive oil DC (which contains a little protein in it). I think the secret when using protein,is to balance it out with moisture!!HTH

Question - I began using protein conditioner as a pre-poo as well. Is it as effective when used this way??

Ms_VonE

Hates it, I can't pre-poo with it at all. I use Aphogee 2 min and Hair Mayo followed with a moisture treatment. So, it works out for me.

My hair despises protein. I tried daily CW's last year with protein--disaster. Fast forward to this year, tried a small protein treatment--another disaster.

I had a HUGE breakage problem; however, I was able to easily correct it this time. I had less breakage than last year, but I lost length again.

A hard lesson learned.

My hair feels strong after protein treatments. Also, since my hair is fine, when I add protein it gives it some thickness. It can however, feel hard if I don't deep condition long enough with a moisturizing conditioner.

Protein treatments have done my hair well. I've gotten two of them since September (my stylist said they're ok to use once per month). He uses the Dudley's DRC and then deep conditions it. It makes my hair soft and strong.

Melanie

My hair isn't too crazy about it. I was spraying my hair every other day with aloe vera juice (has 18, or so amino acids), and I'd find bits of hair on my shirt. When I'd oil my hair, little bits would fall into my oil. Every 3 weeks I use Emergencee (Nexxus' hard protein treatment) followed by a DC just to make sure my hair is strong, but other than that- no protein for me!

Ashley

My hair does not like protein at all. I have tried pre-pooing with heat, big mistake, with out heat, for no more than 10 minutes. My hair only takes to it if my hair is wet and for no more than 10 minutes!!

LongHairDontCare

I have found that regular use of a light protein keeps my hair in check. I use heavy protein treatments as needed...

Argh! This subject is on my mind all of the time lately. Sometimes when I do the deep conditioning with certain plant or animal based protein products I want to cry when I rinse because the hair is so HARD and ROUGH. These are elements of strength however. The hair needs both strength and moisture, so I just take my lumps on DC morning after. For the ladies who are 3c 4a who swear against protein keep this fact in mind: strength AND moisture. Also any form of silk protein has the opposite effect on my hair. That form of protein gives elasticity, softness and silkiness so if you cannot stand other forms of protein, give silk protein products a try. I will never have a regimen without it again. It must be working for other ladies in my city too because the VO5 Silky Experiences is ALWAYS sold out lol.

Plant based proteins does the job for my fine hair. My hair is stronger, softer, and more manageable after each use.

Annitra

My hair hates protein but I think it may be because I eat a lot of protein in my diet. The only topical protein my hair responds well to is ORS replenishing Pak; although I do use aphogee 2 min at relaxer time.

Starrlite

My hair does well with protein. I use a light protein conditioner every week and I ALWAYS follow with a moisturising conditioner. The only time I use a hard protein is when my hair needs it. which is rarely and that is because of the weekly protein conditioners. I also want to add that I DO NOT use a daily product that contain protein,

ayana

should one use a DC right after a protein treatment??

*Muffin*

My hair likes protein, just not too much of it. I can use conditioners with protein in it regularly, but protein reconstructors I usually save for when my hair has just been relaxed. I like Aphogee's 2 minute reconstructor (I still use the old one in the white bottle because it doesn't contain mineral oil) because it doesn't leave my hair feeling hard, but it still makes it feel strong. But adding ooconut oil to my conditioners is usually enough protein for me.
